Network Engineer-5+ years-Onsite

On-site position in Romulus, Michigan The Technology Services (TS) department of the organization isresponsible for providing and managing the organization's technology needs.
The organization's Computing Infrastructure consists of a private fiber backbonethat connects all sites.
All sites are within a ten-mile radius of the main campus.
Personal computers (PCs) and Servers are connected to a high-speed (gigabit) componentof the Network.
Internet access and remote site connectivity are gained through fiberconnectivity.
The usual security and firewall apparatus is in place to safeguard Internetaccess.
A VPN is utilized to access an ASP provided via the Internet.
The Networksupports over 500 PCs, a number of VM Servers, and a SAN.
The organization currently utilizes Microsoft Active Directory 2019 , M365 , MicrosoftOutlook, Microsoft Server , Microsoft SQL Server 2016 , and Windows 10 .
Hardware ispredominately Dell and Cisco .
System and Network monitoring is accomplishedthrough the use of Solarwinds , LogRhythm and SCCM is used for asset management,application deployment, and patch management.
Scope of Services:
Technology Services is seeking a qualified candidate to support network operations andprojects.
o Specify, configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot local area network hardwareand software, such as routers, switches, cabling, firewalls, security appliances,wireless access points, circuits, and Internet service.
o Maintain excellent network performance by performing regular network monitoring andperformance tuning; escalate problems to vendors as needed.
o Provide proactive network support, including daily review of device and security logs,assisting with traffic monitoring, intrusion protection systems, and support for datacenter environment monitoring.
o Establish and maintain network user accounts, user environments, directories,security, and connectivity.
o Maintain a secure network by developing access standards, structure and developprocesses to monitor usage.
o Mentor junior staff; answer technical, procedural, and operational questions for lessexperienced team members.
o Investigate, test, and perform software upgrades; install patches, hot-fixes, versioning,and virus definitions updates.
o Prepare staff for network related changes using a variety of tools including references,training programs, and in-person support.
o Provide technical support and advice as necessary for all departments and outsideagencies, including researching, evaluating, and recommending new technologies.
o Help testing at our Business Continuity site.
o Provide project management support for network/infrastructure projects.
o Create documentation of procedures in a format that will assist other staff in carryingout those procedures.
o Communicate with vendors and external support resources to research products andnew technology, including the acquisition of technology from the quote, review, anddeployment of new technologies.
o Maintain up-to-date skills and awareness of new and emerging network-basedtechnologies and how they may apply to our infrastructure to support our long-termgoals.
o Other related duties as assigned.
o Configure and deploy Cisco, Dell, Fortinet, and Palo Alto infrastructure devices asassigned.
o Lifecycle Management of network infrastructureo Assist Technology Services teams as needed.
Minimum QualificationsThe successful candidate MUST have a broad technical background, good interpersonalcommunications skills, and a strong focus on customer service in addition to:
o Possession of a completed bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityin a technology focused field.
o 3
years of experience in design and management of cloud-based networkinfrastructure.
o 5
years of experience in network administration and support in a Microsoft serverenvironment.
o 5
years of experience with configuring and maintaining network switches, VLANS,routers, and firewalls.
o Experience working in a large very complex organization.
o Ability to frequently (33% - 66%) lift up to 30 pounds.
o A valid Driver's License, with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualificationso Experience working within a government organization.
o Experience in a help desk, technology-oriented field, or on a technology support team.
o Knowledge of Software-Defined Network (SDWAN), Local Area Networks (LANs),Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANS), and Wide Area Networks (WANs).
o Experience utilizing Cisco security suite/tools.
o Experience with a Virtual Private Network (VPN), with network monitoring tools orother SNMP monitoring software, and with system backup.
o Enterprise (global) AD administration in a Multi-Domain Architecture.
Required/Preferred Certifications below or comparable in network, network securityand engineering:
o CISSP (Certified Information System Security Professional)o CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)o MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert)o CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) required ORo CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) preferred Network Engineer-5
